Sahyadri College was literally abuzz with excitement as tiny aircrafts whizzed off the ground and streaked into the air on 10th Sept,2018. The aircraft models developed during the aero-modelling workshop, organised by a launch pad, ‘Challengers’, was a major attraction for students. Speaking on the occasion, over 75 students participating in this 2-Days workshop, with 15 teams competing with each other, each team was allotted with a mentor to guide them through.
The first day started off with interesting theoretical sessions, teaching the basics of aerodynamics and calculations concerning on the fundamental stability of the planes. Aircraft model requires presence of mind and sound knowledge of flight principles, therefore, the day continued with the elaborated explanation of different kind of wings, tails and other configurations. The students were excited a lot for the second part of the day, were they were introduced to basic operations on the software XFLR.
Looking at the urge of students to learn more, the second day began with each student having hands-on experience on building a plane. Avispad-15 was the chosen model to build. The real competition between the teams began, and the team building the finest model with proper aerodynamics was awarded. Not to let them down and keeping them motivated for future, each student was given a complementary award.

The Chairman visited the students personally to keep them excited. He said that the main focus of the workshop was to educate students about aircraft models, their principles and air and wind dynamics. At the same time, students were given exposure to design wing profiles and construction of aircraft models, also teaching them software’s for developing new models.
Thus the 2-Day workshop ended on 10th Sept,2018 with an overwhelming ‘Airshow’, which was specially conducted to inspire young first year students. The students had a great time and learned comparatively a lot in this short span.
Everyone has an urge to fly, be it in sky or in life. While flying in sky is fun and entertainment, coming up with flying colours in life is a real achievement.
